Chief Operating Officer

Five hundred trials, then a nanobody

Physician-executive with more than 30 years across academic medicine, Merck, Pfizer, Bayer, and 500+ clinical research projects. Co-author of the peer-reviewed 3-NAntC paper.

Clinical research turned extractive when scale replaced local expertise. PHP53-nb will need the opposite: sites and patients treated as partners, not throughput.

Argument developed in his 2024 Clinical Leader column

The job at PHP is a protocol, not a press release

Motti’s task is to turn a peptide-and-nanobody story into a clinical development plan that a regulator can read without wincing: endpoints, geographies, ethics, and the unfashionable work of making a first-in-human study actually enroll. He has run that machine inside Merck, Pfizer, and Bayer, and later as an independent designer of trials.

Why he is on the 3-NAntC paper

He is not a guest name. The 2024 Molecules paper lists Bezerra and Motti, both at PHP Biotech International Inc. in Keller, Texas, with company funding disclosed. That is how a COO who still writes about trial ethics also stands behind the peptide that PHP53-nb carries.

From the wards to 500 trials

Dr. Eduardo Motti serves as Chief Operating Officer of PHP Biotech and is one of the company’s most credentialed drug-development leaders, with more than 30 years spanning academic medicine, the global pharmaceutical industry, and clinical research operations.

He earned his medical degree from the University of São Paulo Medical School in 1978 and completed a residency and mastership in infectious diseases at USP. After years as a clinician he moved into pharmaceutical development in 1984, beginning a 17-year tenure at Merck Sharp & Dohme. He later held senior roles at Eurotrials, Schering AG (now Bayer), Pfizer — where he served as regional director of clinical operations for Latin America — and Aché Laboratories.

In 2012 he founded Trials & Training, a consultancy supporting biopharmaceutical companies on clinical trial design and medical strategy. Across his career he has contributed to more than 500 clinical research projects. In 2020 he was named a Global Fellow in Medicines Development (GFMD) by the IFAPP Academy. At PHP Biotech he translates scientific promise into a disciplined clinical development plan for PHP53-nb. He is a co-author, with Dr. Patrícia Bezerra, of the 2024 Molecules paper describing 3-NAntC.
